Vested Interest

From Top Left:
Black & Red Checkered Vest: Nordstrom $58.00
Brown Suedette Vest: Forever21 $27.80
Herringbone Vest: Elizabeth & James via Shopbop.com $295.00
Faux Shearling Vest: Sanctuary via Nordstrom $130.00
Faux Shearling-Lined Suedette Vest: Forever21 $24.80
Coffee Vest Hawk & Co.: Bluefly.com $127.20
"Natali" Vest: Sanctuary via Nordstrom $64.90 (50% off)
Leopard Print Vest: Calvin Klein via Nordstrom $98.00
Native Fringe Sweater Vest: Forever21 $32.90
Dakota Vest: Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent via Shopbop.com $224.00

I have come to the realization that there is no problem a good vest can not fix. If your outfit is feeling a little drab and it needs a punch of "something" throw on a printed vest, if you need that extra layer of warmth throw on a shearling vest, if you ate one too many french fries and want to hide some extra pounds on the sides throw on a vest. You have to love a good vest! Invest in this must have trend now before the cold comes because once it does you are going to wish you had one or two or three.

Holiday Traditions

At the blink of an eye it will soon be Thanksgiving, Christmas, and then New Year's Eve. November and December are always the fastest two months of the year, at least they feel that way to me. The holidays make me think of traditions and special things that I do every year that truly give this time of year that special feeling. I'm sure we all have our own traditions that we participate in to make the holidays feel special. Mine are simple, such as making cornbread sausage every year for my family's thanksgiving, getting a pumpkin spice latte to sip on while picking out our Christmas tree, and watching Miracle on 34th Street (the one from 1994, not 1947) every morning the day after thanksgiving. These among some others are the special little things that really make it feel as though the holidays have arrived. It is after all the most wonderful time of the year, so what are some of your holiday traditions?

Cornbread Stuffing with Apples and Sausage
Recipe courtesy The Neelys - foodnetwork.com

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound Italian sausage, casing removed (I use turkey sausage as a subsitute)
1 medium onions, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped coarsely
1 teaspoon freshly minced thyme leaves
1 teaspoon freshly chopped sage leaves
1/2 cup bourbon
1 1/4 pounds cubed and dried cornbread stuffing, store-bought
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves
2 cups turkey or low-sodium chicken stock
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Heat olive oil over medium-high heat in 12-inch skillet.
Cook sausage for 5 to 7 minutes until browned. Add onions and celery and saute until softened. Add salt and pepper, to taste. Mix in apples, thyme and sage and saute for another 2 minutes. Add bourbon. *Cook's Note: When adding alcohol take pan off flame. Allow to simmer until bourbon is almost evaporated; 1 to 2 minutes.
In a large bowl, add cornbread stuffing, parsley, chicken stock, eggs and pecans. Mix well. Mix in vegetable mixture to bowl. Combine and stir well together. Add to a large casserole dish and bake for 30 minutes.

Cirkus vs. Lita

Steve Madden Cirkus vs. Jeffrey Campbell Lita
"Cirkus"

 "Lita"

As an avid reader of many other blogs and websites I have noticed that there are specific items that most bloggers are either gifted or buy and then shoot and publish around the same time. These items I sometimes feel are almost mandatory to have to be a part of the blogging world. All bloggers lust after them, want them, and eventually end up purchasing them. Some of these items are rose gold watches, coach classic collection handbags, zara two tone flats (the blue and pink ones, yes i have seen like 10 bloggers that have these), celine luggage totes, j brand skinnies, and etc. One huge item that belongs on that list are Jeffrey Campbell booties, especially the Lita. It’s like a right of passage to purchase a pair of these and photograph them. One blogger who i think especially always gets it right with her Jeffrey Campbell Litas (and I must say the first blogger that really made me want to start wanting a pair of my own) is Arielle from somethignavy.com, if she looks familiar to you it’s because she’s also a model. You can find her on singer22.com while you’re online shopping, and yes she makes everything look good, making you want to buy it all, of course! I started asking myself if I could pull off a pair Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s? Yes, I can walk in extremely high heels but just something about the bulkiness of the shoe made me feel like it wasn’t quite my style. Then I spotted Steve Madden's Cirkus oxford pump, they are very similar to the Litas but the Cirkus don’t cover the ankle and seemed just a little more delicate to me, which fits me and my style better. So what do you think?

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!!! I absolutely adore Halloween and everything that comes with it. This weekend i made sure to celebrate my favorite holiday to the absolute max dressing up not once but twice. I am partied out and exhausted, but i had a great holiday weekend with friends. Even though today is actual Halloween i have been celebrating and dressing up since Friday, so I'm trying very hard to stay in the spirit. My neighborhood is kind of rural with large lots so we hardly ever get any trick or treaters. Therefore, all i am looking forward to tonight is a place outdoors where i can sit and people watch everyone else, hopefully while eating some of my favorite candy. Trick or Treat!
happy halloween friday!

minnie mouse purse my niece yaya lend me was probably my favorite part of the whole costume.

There is this little store I walk by around three times a week right next door to my gym called Francesca's Collections in Merrick Park. At first I refused to walk in because stores in Merrick Park can be quite expensive. This worked for a couple of weeks but their window displays are so adorable and so perfectly styled that one day I finally gave in and walked inside. To my surprise this is not the average "Merrick Park" boutique, this being because the prices are incredibly reasonable. It has now become one of my stores to quickly run into and purchase something when I am in a bind or a rush. Today I realized that my outfit is mostly from Francesca's and decided to share one of my secret spots.
