Yardbird

Yardbird has been on my food to-do list since I accidentally drove by its corner location a couple months ago. I couldn't miss it largely in part because of the huge bright lights that spell out YARDBIRD and the overflow of people that were waiting inside and outside the restaurant (always a good sign). I am a huge fan of southern cooking so i already had a feeling i was going to love this place. This past weekend I was finally able to eat at yardbird and I have great things to share about it. I strongly suggest making reservation, we had one, and while i was giving my name another group of people came and asked to be seated the wait time was an hour and thirty minutes! So go on opentable.com or call up yardbird and make a reservation!

My Friend and I wanted to try as much as we could so we ordered the things that called our attention the most and just shared everything. Above is what we ordered for appetizers or small shares (as yardbird calls them). Both were really good if i had to pick between the two i think i loved the chicken biscuits just a little bit more. The BLT was also delicious, I just didn't love the pimiento cheese between the tomato and pork belly.

Mama’s Chicken Biscuits
Bell & Evans fried chicken, pepper jelly, housemade buttermilk biscuit

Fried Green Tomato BLT
Snake River Farms Pork Belly, greens, fried green tomatoes, Tabasco glaze

Those small shares were not that small so we were already feeling a little full after the first course. We had already ordered our entree which we shared as well. Shrimp & Grits is a long time favorite dish of mine so when i saw it on the menu i knew i had to have to it.

Shrimp n’Grits
Florida shrimp, crisp Edwards VA ham, Adluh SC stone ground grits

Macaroni and Cheese
torchio pasta, Grayson, VA cheese, crispy herb crust
(I love the serving dish and the little chicken!)

Last but definitely not least: dessert! I have a confession to make... I have never been much of a sweets person, but lately something has changed and i have become obsessed with sweets and dessert. UGH! this is so not a good thing. I made sure to save space because as i saw all the desserts being brought to different tables around me my mouth was watering and i knew dessert was going to be an amazing experience. We decided on a blueberry tart with sweet corn ice cream! WOW it was probably my favorite thing we ate.
